The last time we heard from Brandon Jennings, he created some news with a general launch date for his yet-unreleased Under Armour basketball footwear. Playmaker Mobile caught up with the Milwaukee Bucks’ rookie again this past NBA All-Star weekend to talk about his favorite sneakers of all time and the development of his Under Armour line. As for a new statement on the official release date of UA’s basketball sneakers? “There’s no date on it right now,” Jennings says in the clip. “It’s still in the works.”

We just reported on the Under Armour Q4 2009 Earnings Conference Call held this past week where company CEO Kevin Plank issued the statement that Under Armour has “no major footwear launches planned for 2010” and that new footwear categories “will begin to impact business in 2011 and beyond.” That seems to be a clear statement by top-level Under Armour executives that its Basketball product lines will not hit retail on a wide platform until at least next year.
In the video above shot by Playmaker Mobile, Under Armour-sponsored athlete Brandon Jennings however seems to vaguely hint at a launch of his sneakers in November “of next year”, which some are reporting as a 2010 release. We contacted Dewey Hammond of Playmaker Mobile for an exact recording date of the video clip with Jennings. Hammond’s response was that the video was recorded “right at the turn of the New Year” so the exact translation of Jennings’ statement remains unclear. In either case, a major Under Armour Basketball Footwear launch is at minimum several months off. We’ll update with any new developments.
The Under Armour Fourth Quarter 2009 Earnings Conference Call held this past Thursday expanded on the Baltimore-based brand’s continual retooling and refitting of its footwear business, as stated in previous sessions. While Kevin Plank, Under Armour Chairman and CEO, says the company “sees momentum” and is “absolutely committed to becoming excellent” in the footwear space going forward, Under Armour has no major footwear launches planned for 2010. Basketball fans will have to wait until at least 2011 to get a chance at any of the UA models Brandon Jennings has been wearing in the current NBA season.
